10 most in-demand medical specialties
Family medicine is the most in-demand physician specialty in the U.S., according to Doximity’s 2019 Physician Employment Report.
For the report, researchers analyzed data on 27,000 physician job listings posted on Doximity in 2018-19 for the top 50 metropolitan areas in the U.S.
In 2019, demand increased 5 percent among the top 10 metro areas for physician employment.
Here’s how the 10 most common medical specialties and subspecialties ranked in terms of demand:
- Family medicine
- Internal medicine
- Emergency medicine
- Psychiatry
- Obstetrics and gynecology
- Neurology
- Radiology
- Anesthesiology
- Pediatrics
- Cardiology
